The 2021 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ national photo contests have come to an end, and our national members are presenting their winners.
PEFC Spain is the first to announce the stunning winning photos of their contest, which had the theme “Caring for Forests”. All national winners will enter the international contest for the chance to become the 2021 ‘PEFC Photographer of the Year’.
The Spanish jury had the difficult task to choose the three winners out of the over 120 photos that entered the contest.
The winning images impress with a sense of mystic and magic, showing the many different sides of forests and nature.
Miguel Díaz-Fernández won first prize for his photo “Kockelscheuer Lake”, taken in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg.
“The morning mist on the Kockelscheuer lake gives a mystical touch and transmits its irresistible peace to the spirit of the beholder,” said the winning photographer.
Ángel Morales came in second with the photo “Portal Mágico” (Magic Portal). Taken in Castellbell i el Vilar in Catalonia, Spain, the photo reveals an impressive view of a forest and a mountain chain.
Third place went to Rubén Domínguez for the photo “Vía Verde” (Green Street), taken in Benicàssim in Eastern Spain.
“By recovering an old railway track, an area of Mediterranean woodland parallel to the sea that links Benicàssim with Oropesa del Mar is rehabilitated,” he explained.
The winners will be awarded with a variety of PEFC-certified products: a selection of Iberian ham from Fuente La Virgen, a bottle of Abadía Retuerta wine, an assortment of honey and sweets form Miel Muria, photo paper and wooden photo frames.

PEFC Spain’s contest was one of eleven national photo contests run by PEFC members. For the fifth time, we invited photographers and forest lovers to enter their images into the national photo contests and received 5000 photos from forests around the world!
Besides winning a fantastic national prize, the best photos from the national contests will enter the international contest. The overall winner will be announced in November and will receive a cash prize of 2000 CHF. The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2022 PEFC photo calendar.
