The Cabin, designed by Johnstone Callaghan Architects.
The Cabin, designed by Johnstone Callaghan Architects.
Designed to touch the land lightly, this remote cabin in the Abel Tasman National Park is an escapist's dream.
A metal staircase climbs to a treetop roof deck where the Cor-Ten cladding extends into a cantilevered balustrade.
The clients lent into the idea of the rudimentary hut.
The site is located in the Abel Tasman National Park.
The scent of locally sourced totara and macrocarpa permeates the interior spaces.
Spaces can be connected and separated by a series of well-placed sliding doors.
The project was driven by a desire to touch the land lightly.
A grated metal walkway meets a shower deep in the forest.
An upper deck offers awe-inspiring views.
A timber boardwalk leads further uphill to a semi-buried toilet, hunkered into the land with concrete and framed by a fully glazed frontage.
At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
