Embracing the magic of its bush-clad hillside site, this off-the-grid home, designed by Mercer and Mercer, is an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
The house sits in perfect balance with the surrounding bush, neither more important than the other.
Embracing washitsu, light and air move freely throughout the space.
The wetback log fire provides hot water and sustainable heating for the home.
Blurring the boundaries between inside and outside, this room is designed to allow the cool filtered light and rich smell of the bush to permeate the space for a more intimate experience with the land.
The open-plan living room is anchored only by the kitchen bench at the back and small log fire at one end.
Glazed doors open on to a large deck, allowing generous access to views of the Firth.
An outside bathing area provides space to relax and unwind in true retreat fashion.
Glass louvres are a nod to the old architecture styles prevalent along the Thames coast.
