The Rug Establishment’s Richard Auchter and Artisan’s Greg McLeod began importing rugs from India for the Australasian market more than a decade ago, and have scaled the business to bring world-class comfort, style and customisation to New Zealand floors.
The yarn spinning, carding and washing processes employ a large industry of cottage-based artisans, keeping the handmade art form as pure and traditional as possible.
After washing, the yarn is dried.
Around two-thirds of The Rug Establishment’s rugs are made by modern-day master artisans in the ‘village’ of Bhadohi.
