While our wooden floors are sought after for their unrivalled aesthetic appeal, we also point to another benefit of choosing them. They help to create healthier homes. Engineered wooden floors improve indoor air quality because they don’t harbour microorganisms, allergens, or pesticides that can be brought in from outdoors. Plus, they also minimize the build-up of dust, mould and animal fur so lovingly left behind by your pets!
Allergens exist everywhere in New Zealand, particularly at this time of year. Those telltale yellow pollen spores are visible all over the place if you step outdoors; it’s easy to walk all over them and bring them back inside with you. Meanwhile, other allergens are more common indoors, with dust mites being an obvious example. Regular vacuuming, dusting and washing may minimize many allergens, but at the same time, these activities can stir them up and send them flying through the atmosphere, to the detriment of your health and everyone else in your family. The best way to control allergens is to eliminate many of the areas where they can gather.
Flooring is the biggest breeding ground for allergens. This is particularly true of soft flooring surfaces, such as carpet. Minute microorganisms, pollen, dust, dust mites, mould, animal fur, and other substances can easily hide away among carpet fibres. In this sort of surface, they’re free to wreak havoc and this is reflected in increased occurrences of asthma and other respiratory conditions.
On the other hand, wooden flooring greatly minimizes the accumulation of allergens because there are no fibres to trap these harmful substances. The cleaning you do on a wooden floor is also much more effective than what you do with carpeted surfaces. A mop will always lead to better results and a cleaner floor than any vacuum cleaner.
So while you may be considering our wooden flooring for its striking looks, you’re in for a healthy bonus when you decide to go ahead and have us install it.
