The advancement of technology means specifiers can now use 3D printing for designer lighting solutions that perfectly reflect a project’s vision or brand identity. From intricate designs to unique finishes, Philips MyCreation cleverly uses 3D-printed lighting for any scale of luminaries.
“Whether requiring just a few or hundreds of luminaires for your project, our 3D production facility prints customised lighting solutions right here in Australia,” says Jonas Olander, Product Manager at Signify Australia.
“Designed for a circular economy, our innovative Philips MyCreation lighting designs are ideal for offices, stores, warehouses and hospitality spaces, and significantly reduce material waste and emissions,” he adds.
The Australian-based manufacturer offers ‘printing on demand’ using sustainably sourced materials. This sustainability element was one of the key drawcards for the recent KMD Brands’ Rip Curl retail store fit-out project.
A leading global surf brand born in Bells Beach, Australia in 1969, Rip Curl maintains a strong affinity with surfers and Aussie beach culture. Sydney’s pre-eminent northern city beach, Manly Beach, is popular with locals and tourists alike and is home to Rip Curl’s high-profile location within The Corso. The Corso’s iconic pedestrian-friendly retail strip connects Manly Beach with the Ferry Wharf, and with complementary and competing retail nearby, Rip Curl needed its renovated store to truly shine.
Run by KMD Brands, the team approached Philips MyCreation Lighting for a stand-out and sustainable solution befitting the vision of the new Manly Beach store. “We focus on continuous improvement, and we're always interested in new developments that can help elevate our sustainability credentials,” says Abigail Wasmer, KMD Brands.
To capitalise on one of the best foot-traffic sites in the country, Rip Curl needed to enhance its visual appeal, further attracting customers to increase its share of the market. The recent renovation of the store included a redesigned and elevated specification of the lighting scheme to enhance the visual appeal and create a more inviting atmosphere for customers. As a certified B-corporation, the team at Rip Curl had high lighting standards to meet, requiring the lighting provider to thoroughly push the sustainability credentials of the installation.
The sleek, compact appearance and integrated hinge made the fitting perfect for highlighting clothing racks and displays in store.
Made from bio-circular material and recyclable at the end of life, the Philips MyCreation Accent Track projector lighting met and exceeded sustainability expectations. The Accent Track improves the customer’s in-store experience and addresses the company’s circularity requirements.
Jonas explains, “With a high-spec CRI90 colour rendering index, low glare, and outstanding efficiency, there was no compromise between performance and environmental consciousness. The sleek, compact appearance and integrated hinge made the fitting perfect for highlighting clothing racks and displays in store.”
Philips MyCreations Accent Track luminaires provided Rip Curl Manly Beach with a lighting solution that supported their sustainability commitments without sacrificing lighting quality. The fittings could be manufactured locally, reducing freight carbon emissions, while at the same time supporting manufacturing in Australia. Additionally, this iconic store on The Manly Corso has a fresh new look, befitting a brand with Rip Curl’s pedigree.
“Created from post-consumer materials and recyclable at end of life, Philips MyCreation 3D printed luminaires couldn’t have been a better choice,” says Abigail.
