We speak to the founders of Matisse, Jeanne and Alan Bertenshaw, about their beautiful new space and how the design works to inspire and highlight the Matisse experience promised to every person who walks through the door. 

Visitors stepping into Matisse's new flagship showroom can anticipate an immersive experience unlike any other in New Zealand. The space showcases an extensive collection of fifteen of the world's most renowned brands in furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, wardrobes and lighting. Developed through a collaboration between our brand's design teams and partners, including B&B Italia, Arclinea, Rimadesio and Cassina, with local input from interior architects Bureaux, the showroom exudes an international design level not experienced here before. From meticulously curated displays to expertly fashioned vignettes, visitors will encounter a diverse range of styles from the world’s greatest designers like Patricia Urquiola and Antonio Citterio, creating an environment that sparks creativity and inspiration.

The design concept for Matisse's new Parnell showroom draws inspiration from a fusion of global design influences and local sensibilities. Our aim was to create a space that not only reflects our commitment to supplying the world’s finest furniture and interiors but also celebrates the vibrant design culture of New Zealand. When approaching the floor plan for the showroom, our team placed a strong emphasis on creating a dynamic and fluid space that would both inspire and delight visitors. Natural light floods the space, highlighting the richness of materials and adding a sense of warmth and vitality. The clever addition of a Mezzanine level with large voids presents an opportunity for visitors to gain a panoramic view of the ground floor, adding details usually missed and not appreciated, adding a harmonious and engaging environment that showcases our curated collections to their fullest potential.
