Entries for the 36th Dulux Colour Awards are now open, and the prestigious annual programme is inviting design professionals to submit their most innovative projects demonstrating creative colour use in the built environment. In categories spanning the interiors and exteriors of residential, commercial and public work, the submissions are judged by a panel of acclaimed industry experts who assess the design intent, degree of mastery and overall impact of colour in the built projects, as well as unbuilt, student-designed concepts.
The awards programme provides an opportunity for design professionals in New Zealand and Australia to be recognised for their creativity and expertise. Dulux welcomes entries from a breadth of genres, no matter the scale or scope of work. It is a privilege for us to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in this field.

Judging criteria and process:
Projects must have been completed between 1 September 2020 and 31 December 2021 and may not have been previously entered into this Awards program. Entries will be judged by an external panel of design professionals (announced 1 February). They’ll determine how colour has been used to enhance and transform the project through two elements: Creativity and Innovation. All colours and shades will be considered from the Dulux range, including black and white.
The project description and rationale behind the choice and use of colour, along with up to 10 digital images, crafted to enhance the colour selection, are key determining factors in the judging process.
Photo submission criteria:
· A minimum of 3 images and a maximum of 10 images may be uploaded per project when you enter.
· Please ensure at least one image is a wide angled shot
· Supply images file type as GIF, JPEG and PNG only
· File size per image to be no greater that 5MB
· File name should include the project title and image number Eg. DuluxProject01, DuluxProject02
The shortlist of finalists will be announced on 11 April 2022 via the Dulux website. All finalists will then be asked to complete a project board for final judging day.
Project Board Requirements:
· A2 size and landscape format
· Substrate to be Foam Core to which images & materials can either be printed or applied
· While we recommend including 1-2 images of the project, the board should be utilised to showcase the materiality of the project eg colour, fabric, timber samples. The purpose of the board is to support the images already supplied during the entry process
· The Project Boards will be used for both the final round judging and displayed at the Winners Announcement Gala event
· Boards will be displayed in landscape format at the Gala event
· At the Gala event, the boards will have a plaque detailing the Practice & Project name, however if you wish to include these details on the board that is also fine
· The Practice & Project name needs to be clearly labelled on the back of the board (if you have elected not to include this information on the front of the board)
· It is recommended to package the boards using bubble wrap (or equivalent) to avoid damage during transit. The outer packaging also needs to be clearly labelled with the Practice & Project name.
Winners of the 36th Dulux Colour Awards will be announced at a Gala Event held at Melbourne’s Timberyard on 1 June 2022.
