From home libraries to tall pantries and out-of-reach places, rolling hardware is the key to both form and function when it comes to accessing high-up spots. Here’s what you need to know about integrating it into your interior.

In interior design, every element contributes to the overall aesthetic and functionality of a space. One such element that has been gaining traction in recent years is rolling hardware designs, particularly rolling ladders. These versatile pieces not only serve a practical purpose but also add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room they grace. To delve deeper into the world of rolling hardware designs, we spoke with Ram Hardware’s Keri Sainty, who shared insights on their innovative applications and customisation options.

Innovative incorporation of rolling hardware designs

When asked about ways to incorporate rolling hardware designs into different spaces, Sainty emphasises the dual nature of these pieces.

“Not only does a rolling ladder serve as a functional piece of furniture, it can also be a statement piece of art. It has been observed that customers often finish their ladder in bold colours such as black and white, which makes it stand out from the bookshelf, rather than blending in.”

Indeed, rolling ladders have become a popular choice in various settings, including kitchens, tiny homes, laundries, libraries and retail spaces. Their ability to provide both access and aesthetic appeal makes them a versatile addition to any space in the home. Sainty says many of the library ladders they sell have never even seen a book!

Tailored solutions for every space

One of the key aspects of rolling hardware designs is their customisability. Sainty highlights the range of options available to clients, from the selection of wheel designs to the choice of ladder wood species.

“We have a variety of hardware and finishes and clients can choose things such as wheel design and ladder wood species - meaning no matter the space, contemporary or classic, we will have the hardware to suit."

This flexibility ensures that each rolling ladder is tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of the client, whether they prefer a modern look or a more traditional aesthetic.

In terms of materials and finishes, Sainty says black remains a perennial favourite among customers.

“This can be both contemporary or classic, depending on the hardware and ladder it is paired with.”

Additionally, American oak is a popular choice for ladder construction, thanks to its natural beauty and durability.

“The stunning, natural grain shows through beautifully with a stain finish,” says Sainty. “We have also seen a huge influx of clients wanting the Satin Brass finish paired with the oak, which is our newest hardware finish.”

When it comes to customising for specific spaces, rolling ladders can be created bespoke for each application.

“Clients can choose the height and width of their ladders, the wood species and hardware finish. They are even able to choose what the hardware does (rolling, non-rolling etc.); most things, down to the end caps on the rails are customisable in some way.”

Accessing high cupboards is both stylish and practical with a rolling ladder.

Balancing visual impact with durability

While visual appeal is important, durability and reliability are equally essential, especially for pieces that see frequent use. Sainty says with Quiet Glide hardware, striking design and durability go hand in hand.

"Our hardware comes with a limited lifetime warranty and is cycle tested 100,000 times," Sainty shares.

This ensures that every rolling ladder not only looks stunning but also stands the test of time.

“Quiet Glide is the best hardware on the market. A quick Google search will show millions of happy customers around the globe!”

Rolling hardware designs offer a perfect marriage of form and function, elevating the aesthetic appeal and functionality of any space they inhabit. With their customisable options, durability, and timeless elegance, rolling ladders are poised to remain a staple in interior design for years to come. Whether adding a touch of sophistication to a home library or enhancing the efficiency of a retail space, these versatile pieces continue to captivate with their beauty and practicality.
