Home Size. Like Counting Jelly Beans in a Jar.

Do you remember when you were a kid, and they would have the 'Guess how many jelly beans are in the jar' competition? You could stand back and eyeball it, then throw a number at it. And on rare occasions, you might come close. But it was the kids who systematically counted roughly how many jelly beans were across the base, then multiplied it by the number of jelly beans high, that mostly took out the win.

One exercise we undertake in the Home Build Mentoring (HBM) program is estimating the likely size of your new home. Sure, we could throw a number at it, but we would likely be off the mark. So instead, we apply a systematic form of calculation, which typically lands us pretty close, just like the clever kiddos that always took out the win in the jelly bean competition.

I bet you already know the spaces you want to include in your new home or addition—the number of bedrooms, living areas, garaging etc. You've most likely started forming a list in your head. In the HBM program, we take those spaces and assign the intended size for each and presto- We know how big your home will be. The applied sizes for each area are based on years of researching and dissecting hundreds of floor plans.

So why do we want to know your home size, you ask? Great question!

The reason we calculate size is so that we can calculate the likely cost. If the size and relative cost are getting away from us, we can change or combine the desired spaces accordingly. We take control of the project from the outset by developing your physical brief directly aligned with your budget. When investing in Home Build Mentoring, there are no nasty surprises come construction time where your build cost is hundreds of thousands away from your budget.

So tell me, do you want to win the competition? In the good ole' jelly bean competition, you took home the giant jar of jellybeans; in your new home build or major reno, you take control and direct the project right from the start. That's a pretty cool prize.
