SAL Commercial's Managing Director, Shane Massey, reflects and shares how the business has stayed successful since its launch.

Since 1998, SAL has been providing Australian customers with innovative lighting solutions. The launch of SAL Commercial in 2018 marked a new chapter for the family-owned business, honing in on its expertise in health, education, custodial, industrial and commercial office spaces.

25 years on, the business has continued to thrive, expanding to all Australian states while being supported by a suite of local and international supply partners. Managing Director Shane Massey believes that a large part of the company's success comes down to never resting on its laurels.

"The continual drive for achievements better than yesterday [is what] challenges our team to listen, learn and deliver valuable business outcomes for our customers."

Indeed, customers are spoiled for choice when it comes to lighting businesses in Australia. Shane says that creating "purpose-built products [that] meet the ever-changing demands and trends of the local market" helps SAL Commercial stand out from the masses.

From lighting designs with a reduced carbon footprint to lighting solutions made for sporting grounds, medical rooms and more, a diverse offering helps their customers buy confidently. SAL Commercial also distributes an array of European brands to bring international design aesthetics to  Australian shores.

"The ongoing development of creative and sustainable lighting solutions is the DNA of SAL Commercial. We understand the importance of listening to and engaging with our clients on ideas that ultimately deliver successful outcomes for all stakeholders."

"[We have] access to the largest range of trade luminaires, as well as distributing leading European manufacturers such as Disano, Fosnova, Egoluce, Lombardo and Brandon Medical, meaning SAL Commercial has the broadest product offering in the commercial project market."

The power of community and honesty encapsulate the values of SAL Commercial. According to Shane, investing in their staff and fostering connection – both with their customers and amongst themselves – has helped the business flourish for 25 years.

"Being a family-owned business, our people are our greatest asset in SAL and SAL Commercial. Both businesses have experienced phenomenal staff retention over long periods," he explains.

"People are your most important asset, so acquire the best [ones] that have shared values and be honest with yourselves and your customers."

Along with new commercial projects and product innovations on the horizon, Shane and his team are focused on expanding SAL Commercial.

"We understand the unique and challenging requirements of the commercial lighting market segment and every new day is a learning experience," he says.

"The exciting journey continues by exploring technology that improves our quality of life and acknowledges our social responsibility in reducing our global carbon footprint, through the creation of innovative smart lighting controls and energy-efficient lighting solutions."
