Timber floors finished in lacquer provide durability and a natural sheen, but like all wood surfaces, they need the right care to stay at their best. With the right routine and products, maintaining lacquered timber floors is simple and effective. Regular cleaning not only preserves the appearance but also protects against wear, moisture, and dirt buildup that can shorten the life span of your timber floor.

At VidaSpace, our WoodClinic floor care range has been developed to make timber care effortless, offering purpose-made Wood Floor Soaps, Conditioners, Mop Kits, and Replenishment Kits designed specifically for lacquered finishes.

Whether you’re maintaining a newly installed floor or refreshing one that’s been part of your space for years, this guide outlines the best way to clean, condition, and restore lacquered timber floors. With regular care and the right products, your floor will continue to perform beautifully for decades.

Dry Cleaning | Daily

Remove dust and debris using a soft-bristle broom, electrostatic mop, or vacuum with a soft brush attachment. Regular dry cleaning prevents abrasive particles from scratching the lacquer surface and keeps your floor looking consistently clean.

Damp Cleaning | Weekly

Use a WoodClinic Spray Mop and WoodClinic Lacquer Soap, a pH-neutral cleaner made for lacquered timber. Avoid excess water - the surface should dry within a few minutes of mopping. Clean the mop head as soon as it becomes soiled. For larger or commercial areas, the Kärcher range of heavy-duty mops is ideal for more intensive cleaning.

Conditioning | 1-2 times per year

Use WoodClinic Wood Floor Conditioner to restore sheen and reinforce surface protection. Conditioning helps your lacquered finish resist micro-scratches and wear, especially in high-traffic areas.

Deep Cleaning | Every 2-4 years

Mechanically clean the surface using a vertically rotating brush machine such as a Kärcher BR 30/4 Scrubber. This removes ingrained dirt and grime that regular cleaning can’t reach. For the best results, we recommend using a professional cleaner equipped with a Bona Power Scrubber.

Note: Avoid steam mops or wet mops, as excessive moisture can damage timber. Do not use highly alkaline or acidic cleaning products. After deep cleaning, a fresh coat of lacquer is recommended to restore protection.

Restoring Your Lacquered Timber Floor

Over time, timber floors can show signs of wear, but restoration can bring them back to life. Whether through deep cleaning, recoating, or full sanding, the right approach will help in restoring their appearance and durability

Disc & Recoat | Every 5–7 years

If your lacquered floor shows minor wear, lightly sand the coating, then apply two coats of Bona Traffic HD (or an equivalent water-based lacquer). This refreshes the surface and restores a smooth, protective finish.

Sand & Recoat | Every 7–10 Years

If your lacquered floor is starting to show signs of heavy wear, fully sanding the surface back to raw timber and recoating with your choice of coating system is the most effective way to restore your floor’s appearance and provide a new protective layer. With this method, you can also completely change the colour and look of your floor if desired for redecorating.
