The team at JANUS et Cie give their top design tips to enhance your outdoor space with their new Ares and Mattone collections.

For many of us, the outdoor space of our home is an escape from the busyness of life – whether it’s on your own to enjoy the fresh air or as a place to host and entertain guests.

For 45 years, JANUS et Cie has specialised in design-driven furnishings and textiles for the outdoors. Their new collections, Ares and Mattone, make outdoor spaces the destination for gathering in ultimate comfort. JANUS et Cie takes us through their design considerations and how each piece can be styled into existing outdoor spaces.

Ares by JANUS et Cie

Ares: pair it with your existing outdoor furniture and create balance

The neutral finishes in the Ares collection suit most outdoor spaces, whether it’s balancing out a bold colour palette or trying to create the illusion of a wider space through brighter tones.

“Ares is available in two classically neutral, monochromatic colorways — Fossil, a cool grey hue, and Cocoa, a rich, warm brown — each complemented by substantial frames in a greige Driftwood finish,” the JANUS et Cie team says.

Comprising 10 pieces, the collection highlights beautiful texture with intricately woven rope and deep cushions. The dining tables are crafted from premium FSC-certified solid teak, a material that offers incredible durability and weather resistance. Its natural oils also repel water, making it resistant to most forms of fungi, wood rot and pests.

Meanwhile, sturdy polyvinyl mesh panels support the chairs and sofa seats. Gentle angles and innovative details take Ares from contemporary to transitional aesthetics and beyond, while endlessly durable engineering and exacting craftsmanship bring the sophistication of fine interior design outdoors.

Mattone: mix and match to make a contemporary space

Also comprising 10 pieces, Mattone is a collection that creates a destination for gathering in exceptional comfort. The modular structure of each design makes it effortless to style and reconfigure for different outdoor uses. For example, easily fill empty corners with the Module 2 Seat or add the Module Ottoman in the middle to create a smaller, intimate setting.

As one of the first fully upholstered collections for JANUS et Cie, Mattone features deep, inviting cushions and generous proportions with endless configuration possibilities. Mattone offers exceptional versatility and creates the opportunity for playful interaction between its pieces and environment.

Each outdoor design is available in two sophisticated fabrics. Senda Niebla is a warm, soft grey while Senda Avena is a monochromatic, flaxen beige. Both materials can complement and coordinate an array of colour palettes.

Top tip: invest in quality first

JANUS et Cie advises that outdoor furniture is an investment, so allocate an appropriate budget to ensure your outdoor furniture withstands the test of time.

“It is important to seek out high-quality materials, such as powder-coated aluminium or premium teak, that are rigorously engineered to ensure your outdoor living space can withstand the elements for years to come.”
