It is the process of collecting a bunch of images or ideas that you like the look of, which can transpire into ideas to redecorate your existing home or new build!
Your mood board can be used for different areas of your home, such as the kitchen, living room, master bedroom, even the garden!
The idea is to be able to look at your mood board and visualise an accent colour (the main colour). Which has 3-4 different colours to complement the accent colour (check out our previous mood board post for examples).
You may choose to associate a slightly different colour variety to each room. Or keep each room to their own devices – pick a style that you think fits well with you and roll with it!
We’ve come up with a few basic steps to help get you started on creating your own mood board:
- Find images that inspire you! Use social media such as Pinterest to search for ideas, check out the latest home magazines. Find photos of rooms that you like the look of and add them to a collection (check out our Pinterest for ideas here)!
Are there any specific decor/furniture pieces you would like to buy? Textures and patterns which match your vibe that you would like to mirror? Or any items within your room that will stay once you’ve revamped? Include these in your board also!
Plan these images out in a scrapbook or on creative websites such as Pinterest or Canva!
Pick your accent colour and work from this (your main colour)
Pick colours that compliment each other and most importantly compliment your accent colour; different shades, textures, glosses etc. Choose a max of 4-5 colours that work together.
Combine soft shapes and crisp lines; the structural elements of a room such as the flooring, walls vs furniture and decor that you can add to soften up the space.
You should start to see your ideas come to life!
Once you’ve created your own unique mood board we would love to see it! Check out our Facebook for more mood boards and to share your ideas with us.
