The Beauty of Circularity. DESSO Origin’s Recharge and Retrace carpet tiles are 100% recyclable, the result of a holistic design process. Here, the circular notion of “made to be remade” inspired both texture and pattern, with each product line reflecting the tactile beauty to be found in the perfect imperfection of the natural world.
Doing good for people and the planet means taking real steps to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, a major contributor to global warming.
Tarkett’s circular approach to carpet tiles enables us to do just that. The only carpet tile manufacturer with a closed-loop recycling system, we limit the use of virgin raw materials for new products, and avoid common, carbon-emitting options such as incineration and the landfill at product end-of-life.
A global leader in sustainability, Tarkett is proud to announce that their DESSO Origin carpet tile collection delivers the lowest circular carbon footprint in Europe*, one that is at least 6 times lower** than the total carbon footprint of Tarkett’s competitors.
Tarkett’s innovative circular, closed-loop systems differ from other manufacturer production models. From the initial point of extraction through manufacturing, installation, use and recycling, Tarkett is the only carpet tile manufacturer with a closed-loop recycling system that effectively cuts down on waste and the emission of greenhouse gases.
This circular approach is a key driver of Tarkett’s strategy to protect the environment and preserve natural resources by reducing its carbon impact and achieving the lowest circular carbon footprint with the Origin carpet tile collection.
The DESSO Origin collection is made to be remade. Manufactured entirely using 100% green energy, DESSO Origin carpet tiles were designed to be disassembled so their components can be easily recycled into raw material for new carpet tiles.
Once disassembled, old makes way for new. Tarkett’s take-back and recycling program, ReStart®, makes it possible to close the loop, recycling yarn and backing without loss of quality, all the while complying with stringent health and environmental standards.
The EcoBase backing is shredded, then reformed into polyolefin granulates to create new EcoBase backings. Separated from the backing, the PA6 ECONYL® yarn is recycled, regenerated and reintegrated within new carpet tiles.
Making conscious choices. For people and planet.

The beauty of circularity comes across in the irregularity and textural variation of their designs, an invitation to touch, feel and admire, time and time again.
The DESSO Origin carpet tile collection comprises two complementary designs, DESSO Recharge and DESSO Retrace. Both carpet tiles contain up to 61.1% of recycled content and feature a stippled texture that varies slightly between the two designs. Recharge evokes the upcycled chalk used in the manufacture of the 100% recyclable and Cradle to Cradle Gold-certified™ EcoBase backing, while Retrace looks to the carpet tile recycling process itself for its design inspiration.
Recharge and Retrace carpet tiles are 100% recyclable, and share the same beautiful palette of 20 colours, ranging from warm and cool neutrals to rich earth tones. These nature-evoking hues work beautifully together, bringing harmony, tactility and acoustic comfort to today’s modern and busy workspaces.
For improved sound impact reduction performance, the DESSO Origin collection is also available with an optional DESSO SoundMaster® acoustic backing. The SoundMaster® acoustic backing helps control sound by insulation and absorption, reducing unwanted noise. On top of its expertly designed functionality, the SoundMaster® backing contains 80% recycled content from used PET bottles.
