These pear trees are the type destined to provide a visual feast only. The kind to fill you up with happiness and contentment when looking at them. They are every bit as tasty as that sweet pear pie whilst being much kinder to the hips.

PYRUS calleryana ‘Candelabra’ - Upright Ornamental Pear

Pear trees are just not the kind that provides a plentiful harvest, destined to become a satisfyingly quenching summer snack or warming, sweet and slightly naughty pie.

These pear trees are the type destined to provide a visual feast only.  The kind to fill you up with happiness and contentment when looking at them.  They are every bit as tasty as that sweet pear pie whilst being much kinder to the hips!

Glossy and dark green, the leaves are dense and grow on branches which grow upright in a columnar habit. The small white flowers presented in spring are favoured by bees. Then as the weather turns, so do the leaves, hues of orange and red bringing some quite startling

colour to overcast days.

Very wind tolerant, this deciduous tree will grow in dry and poor soils.

An ideal street or specimen tree which will grow to 6 x 3m

The fast growing American cultivar has a broad, pyramidal crown with horizontal

branches.  In spring, those branches are full with a profusion of the most gentle whites, the spring bloom becoming the very essence of freshness.

The leaves are a deep green for much of the year but turn wine red and even purples, as

Autumn moves through to Winter.

An ideal specimen tree, you can expect heights of up to 15 metres.

On the subject of visual feasts, we hope to have more for your eyes soon.  Last week we were busy with the spring photoshoot, on location in Invercargill and the surroundings.  We may have lucked in on the best spring day of the week too.  Those images will be shared with you very soon.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent.
