ArchiPro recently sat down with Twostyle’s Co-founder Elle Giuliano to uncover styling secrets, explore current décor trends and understand the art of increasing buyer desire.
1. A textural welcome
The duo’s first piece of design insight is introducing textural elements to add interest to a simple design. They emphasise the importance of not being afraid to layer textures: “Boucle, velvet, touches of linen, raw stone and polished plaster. These features create visual interest, elevate a pared-back space and add a quiet confidence to any room,” says Giuliano.
Twostyle has a keen eye for emerging trends, as they highlight the resurgence of curves, arches and rounded edges in interior design. “We use curved pieces to soften a space, add sculptural detail and variation of form,” says Giuliano.
2. Farewell to black and white marble
While the black and white marble trend once reigned supreme, Giuliano notes that it has made way for warmer, earthier stone options such as travertine. “Monochrome and all-white spaces are no longer embraced, with earthy, richer colours like deep green and burnt amber now making a lasting place for themselves in the design world again,” says Giuliano.
With its fusion of tropical, coastal and baroque elements, Twostyle completed a full interior renovation of COYA Restaurant, offering an immersive dining experience fitting its seaside location.
Featuring custom-made joinery and furniture throughout, the design features rich green tones, travertine and burnt amber features to enhance its tropical vibe.
People often find it difficult to see the potential of a room. We take the guessing out of it and offer a real-life representation of a furnished house – like a ‘try before you buy’ – property stylists can show you the possibilities
3. Timeless kitchens and bathrooms
Twostyle’s tips for achieving timeless aesthetics in kitchens and bathrooms revolve around practicality. They recommend materials and finishes that age well, like granite and porcelain, and emphasise the importance of hard-wearing handles on joinery for long-lasting appeal.
Additionally, they suggest sticking to a neutral colour palette, “We always recommend a neutral colour palette, too – neutrals are classic and can be reimagined endlessly over the years without significant alterations,” says Giuliano.
4. The value of property styling
Twostyle emphasises that property styling plays a vital role in increasing buyers' desire for a property. Giuliano explains that people often struggle to visualise a space's potential, and this is where a property stylist steps in to remove the guesswork and make the property more appealing.
“Being able to imagine the space and envision yourself in it is important. People often find it difficult to see the potential of a room. We take the guessing out of it and offer a real-life representation of a furnished house –like a ‘try before you buy’– property stylists can show you the possibilities.”
Twostyle transformed this newly built Broadbeach Penthouse into the perfect interstate escape with a complete fit-out and furniture styling.
Blessed with a dreamy waterfront view, the team integrated organic elements such as tonal woods alongside carefully selected pops of colour to enliven the space with a coastal aesthetic.
Jardan furniture adds a touch of sophistication and elegance throughout, perfectly blending with the natural beauty of the travertine stone. Distinctive resin décor by Dinosaur Designs adds an artistic and contemporary flair, instilling a fusion between the apartment’s luxurious finishes and creative accents.
5. Design differences between houses and apartments
When it comes to interior design for apartments versus houses, the Giuliano sisters stress the importance of using lighter finishes in apartments. “Darker finishes can have the effect of closing in and minimising a room, so understanding where not to use them is crucial. In apartments, creating a sense of spaciousness is paramount, and opting for lighter materials can help achieve this,” Giuliano adds.
Elle and Alanah Giuliano offer their expertise to transform spaces and inspire those looking to create stunning, contemporary interiors. Their creative insights, from the value of texture to the power of timeless design, help shape the aesthetics of homes and stores across Australia.
