Family-owned Universal Fans has been specialising in ceiling fans, exhaust fans and other ventilation solutions for over two decades.
“By focusing only in these areas, we have developed a high level of expertise to ensure we can offer our clients the most appropriate solution for their design,” says Stuart Meaney from Universal Fans.
Bathrooms without proper ventilation will hold excess moisture in the air which can settle on surfaces, creating the ideal environment for mould and mildew. Eventually, this can lead to lingering unpleasant odours, wall and ceiling damage, and even structural damage to your house.
"Air quality within the home, including the bathroom, is important,” says Stuart. "Inadequate ventilation can lead to moisture build-up, which means mould and its corresponding respiratory issues."
"Suitable ventilation prevents the build-up of contaminations and allergens and helps to reduce the condensation from wet areas to prevent the growth of mould," explains Stuart. "This is particularly important for ensuites that connect to walk-in wardrobes."
Universal Fans' Fanco Hybrid Ceiling exhaust fan enables homeowners and specifiers to achieve ventilation without compromising on noise or style. "It offers the performance of an inline fan but with the convenience and minimalist style of an easy-to-install fan," says Stuart.
"The noise level of the Fanco Hybrid sits at 36 dB(A). Comparable fans, in terms of extraction rate, are more in the 42-45 range," explains Stuart. "The Hybrid is the ideal choice if you're looking for a high extraction rate but minimal noise."
The secret to its quiet resolve lies within the centrifugal impeller housed in the motor, designed to be the optimal size alongside the quality European ball-bearing motor. This design ensures sustained extraction capabilities without generating excessive noise.
The Fanco Hybrid’s discreet design is a far cry from the familiar grille-style covers. Its flush modern fascia is available in round or square shapes, with an integrated CCT LED light model available, making it easy to keep clean.
While the black or white matte finishes, as opposed to gloss, allow it to blend seamlessly into the ceiling – adding to its minimalist and sophisticated feel.
The Fanco Hybrid fan also includes a built-in draft stopper, which means the system will be closed when the unit is not in operation, preventing any unwanted cold drafts from entering your bathroom. The duct outlet on the fan is designed to accommodate 150mm ducting, with flexible ducting typically used for bathroom applications.

The Hybrid has been designed with retrofitting in mind, explains Stuart. "The unit will fit into a 300mm (diameter) sized hole, which happens to be a fairly common size," explains Stuart. "If your ceiling hole is smaller, it's generally not too difficult to cut the Gyprock to make it larger, and a cutting template is provided with the product."
Provided you have a power point installed in the roof, the fan is equipped with a lead and plug for a simple plug-and-play installation. The unit is held in place securely with plasterboard clips, requiring no fabrication of a supporting frame or the need to locate it close to a supporting ceiling beam.

Its ability to combine powerful extraction capabilities with reduced noise makes it a standout choice for specifiers and homeowners seeking superior moisture control and a modern touch in their bathroom design.
