As wellness becomes an integral part of modern living, forward thinking architecture firms are exploring how office design can support both productivity and wellbeing.

Leading architecture practice Warren and Mahoney partnered with Technogym to introduce state-of-the-art fitness equipment into their Auckland studio for a month of workplace wellness. The equipment not only enhances employee wellbeing but also demonstrates how functional design can be incorporated harmoniously into workspaces.

Warren and Mahoney explains that the partnership aligned closely with the practice’s values: “We celebrate diversity and great craftsmanship. Design is much broader than just architecture and interior design. We appreciate all forms and typologies of quality design, and the Technogym aesthetic and quality reflects that.”

The fitness space was centred around Technogym’s Personal Line, designed by renowned architect Antonio Citterio. Two signature pieces from the range, the Bike Personal and Cross Personal Elliptical were displayed. Every element of the Personal Line reflects Technogym’s meticulous Italian craftsmanship. The sleek lines and polished aluminium detailing create sculptural design pieces that sit naturally within the sophisticated architectural environment of the firm’s office.

Technogym Connected Dumbbells and the Technogym Bench complete the space, highlighting space saving solutions to keeping active. Both offer access to thousands of workouts via the Technogym App, ideal for smaller office footprints.

The alignment wasn’t only aesthetic, both companies share a common approach to design: A priority for us is the wellbeing and health of people. The spaces we create matter, and equally important is what we put into those spaces. Showcasing pieces of equipment and experiences that reflect that idea and philosophy was really important.”

Having fitness equipment in the workplace was a first for Warren and Mahoney, and it was met with enthusiasm from employees, who appreciated the opportunity to stay active throughout the day.

“Bringing that kind of typology and equipment into our space was quite a unique feature, something unexpected that would draw the eye. “There was a lot of interest in finding out more about it. It was really well received.”

The placement has sparked conversations about designing offices that prioritise wellness without compromising style or functionality.

Research consistently shows that workplaces supporting physical and mental wellbeing can reduce stress, boost productivity and improve employee engagement. Technogym and Marren and Mahoney’s approach aligns with this progression, offering solutions that integrate wellness into everyday workspaces.

Technogym proves that gym equipment can be more than functional, it is a statement of design. For architects and designers, it demonstrates how wellness solutions can add meaningful value to the vision of a space. This collaboration between Warren and Mahoney and Technogym offers a glimpse into the future of office design, where architecture and wellness coexist in perfect balance.
