When Lead Times Become Part Of The Specification

A front door may be selected for its material, proportion and appearance, but on a live project another factor quickly enters the conversation: when will it arrive?
Parkwood Doors has expanded its Australian manufacturing capability, with its Door Express range now being produced locally. The move is intended to give aluminium fabricators greater certainty around lead times while retaining the architectural entrance door designs and manufacturing consistency of the existing range.

It comes as tighter construction programmes increasingly make procurement part of the specification conversation. A product that resolves the design brief but cannot meet the programme can create problems well beyond its own installation.

Door Express takes a deliberately edited approach. Rather than offering the full breadth of Parkwood’s entrance door catalogue, it brings together a curated selection of popular aluminium designs, finishes and hardware options intended to make ordering more straightforward. The current range includes custom heights up to 2700mm with a series of standard widths, while Parkwood lists a two-week delivered lead time for metropolitan areas.

Local manufacture does not change the underlying proposition of the door itself. Parkwood’s aluminium entrance doors are designed around durability, low maintenance and stability in exposed Australian conditions, with the broader range spanning contemporary architectural styles and different performance requirements.
What changes is the distance between specification and supply.
For fabricators in particular, that can mean fewer variables at the point where an entrance door needs to move from drawing to manufacture and site. It is a relatively simple shift, but one that reflects a wider reality of contemporary construction: good specification increasingly needs to account for availability as carefully as appearance and performance.
