Studio Bagno owes a great deal to the work of Alexander Kira, former Professor of Architecture at Cornell University and his ground-breaking studies.

His book; The Bathroom, revised edition of 1976 published by Viking Press Remains definitive.

It is the result of seven years research encompassing human physiology, ergonomics, and behaviour related to the design and application of every aspect of the bathroom both residential and commercial.

His insights guide us.

Professor Kira’s influence extends to our development; not only of flushing methods related to the design of the pan internal to optimize performance, but even to the design of our toilet seats.

We are compelled to note that with regard to toilet seat design consideration must be given to not only ensure user comfort; no sharp edges , but also to shaping the opening such that the user is most comfortable sitting directly above the well.

Being positioned above the well is not only comfortable by design but assists in the effectiveness of the flush.

Seats with squarish or ovoid openings preclude this.

Elliptical openings provide the best result particularly as exemplified by the seat on our Milady series of WC’s.

These design considerations are important as we live with Western norms which are not necessarily the best ergonomic and physiological ways to evacuate so the position and resultant aid to the performance of the WC are paramount meeting expectations.

Many of you are no doubt aware that the bulk of our toilets are manufactured in Italy or Turkey.

This enables us to work with manufacturers with broad experience in meeting standards which apply in Europe and hence means our toilets are subjected to performance tests beyond those required by the Australian Standards and this improves user satisfaction.

With the full flush for removal of solids set at 4.5L our object is to ensure clearance of solids and an excellent rimwash in order to obviate flushing twice as experience tells us this is what most users do if the result is unsatisfactory.

It seems there is a reluctance to use the toilet brush. In fact ; for many reasons, it’s not possible to always achieve the desired result.

However; our object is, through design, to absolutely minimize flushing twice and the resultant waste of water.

To see just how well our toilets work I refer you to our range of Rimless Toilets Here.

Every toilet in our offering has a video showing the full flush.

It’s our way of making sure you are confident in your specification.

So , at Studio Bagno our contribution to gracious living is not only truly beautiful toilets but superior functionality across the offering.

I’ll return to the subject of the toilet pan in a future blog.

It’s what we do !
