Which Indoor Heating To Choose?

Words by Aber Living

With so many choices out there, it’s not surprising that there is confusion around which heating system is right for your needs. Here, we’ve created a simple step-by-step form so you can be sure you make the right choice.

#1 Central Heating

Gas central heating heats your whole home through vents in the ceiling, floor, or wall from a central unit usually situated in the ceiling. The benefit of these systems is that they can be zoned and temperature controlled to save you money.

Wood Fires by Kent

#2 Wood Fires

Wood fires add ambiance to your home and are always reliable. They can double as a wet-back to heat water, and you can use the top as a cook-top should you ever lose power. Different sized fires are available for different houses. To see what fire you need, check out the products at kent.co.nz. There is even a handy price estimator in the product section to help you out.

#3 Heat Pumps

Heat pumps work by taking the air from outside your home and electrically warming (or cooling) it before pumping it into your house. At 5-10cents per k/Wh, they are more efficient than an electric heater. You can also put more than one unit into your house so that you can ‘zone’ it. They tend to be less efficient when the air temperature outside drops.
