Photographer Amanda King’s striking prints are inspired by the subjects she encounters in the paddocks of her Hororata farm.
Never work with children or animals, goes the old saying. But I have always laughed at those rules, starting out as a family photographer and, for the last four years, snapping enormous Angus bulls, bison and sheep just to name a few.
Her photographic work now ranges from animals, botanicals, seascapes, landscapes, and lifestyle assignments for select clients to personal projects developed in nature to create my limited edition print collections.
HQ is an 1100ha farm in Hororata, about an hour west of Christchurch. It is Amanda's husband Fraser’s family farm, a far cry from my upbringing in the Brisbane suburbs.
When Amanda is not looking after their children – Greta, eight, and Dudley, seven – she will be wandering around the farm or surrounding areas, drawn to the beauty of the colours of the landscape or by the rural animals that surround her.
The results in turn create striking, open and limited-edition prints that hang on walls everywhere from New Zealand and Australia to the UK and Europe.
Amanda has created pieces for homes in Sweden, France, Saudia Arabia, Estonia, to restaurants in Minnesota as well as a brewery in Texas.
OneFrame Artist Series works can be manufactured and delivered for a bespoke size and application into homes, hotels, or corporate settings. We can also facilitate conversation with individual artists to create commissioned work for your project that is then manufactured specific to its intended application and location. Please contact us to discuss further.
The concept was formulated with the idea of bridging the gap between local talent and the commercial specifier market. Too often we see generic imagery sourced through international libraries with little thought to what is available in our own back yard. On conversations with the specifier market to date we found that there was a gap not only in our NZMADE offer when it came to access of NZ specific artwork, but also the lack of access to artwork by local talent.
