Antique English Campaign Military Chest

$2,500
Brass-bound and Studded Leather
D540 x W1020 x H490 mm

A handsome Georgian British officer's military Campaign camphor trunk or chest of brass-bound and studded leather over camphor wood c.1820 - 1850. The trunk has original brass bound nail head trim decoration and side carrying handles. The interior is lined in paper. Likely manufactured by the British East India Company for an officer to carry his kit on Campaign. Camphor wood was used for these trunks which not only smelled delightful but had the ability to ward off insects and moths which might attack clothing and uniforms. A fantastic example and in lovely condition with the right amount of patina for its age, this piece would make a great coffee table, or used as blanket storage at the foot of the bed.
