Quartz Sand

Inspired by the sinuous slopes and restless ripples of our planet’s deserts – the ‘Dune Chess Set’ attempts to capture sand in its purest, elemental form.

With their carefully sculpted surfaces, rival chess pieces offer a unique tactile experience for opponents, as their texture varies between rippled and smooth.

The board’s sloped silhouette creates an undulating landscape upon which pieces face-off from opposing hills; before descending into the battlefield below.

It was designed by Northern Irish Architect and Interior Designer, Rory Noble-Turner. By harnessing the power of Sand 3D-Printing, Rory is able to materialise unique geologically-inspired objects otherwise impossible with traditional manufacturing techniques.
