Homage to Julian, then to Josef and Anni by Elliot Collins

$2,500
Acrylic on wood

Award winning artist Elliot Collins is known for contemporary painting and sculpture practice which distills poetic phrases into visual art forms.

This piece was first shown in Auckland, at Collins' solo show 'The Weight of Words'. Using what has become instantly recognisable as his signature colour palette of warm, slightly muted primary tones with a nod to mid-century and earthy authenticity, this work is both abstract painting and conceptual art.

The names referenced in the title of the work are the artists heroes, with each layer of the piece representing one of these figures who have loomed large in terms of their influence on his practice and approach to art making.

Elliott Collins won the prestigious Molly Morpeth Canaday Contemporary Art Award in 2024. He holds PhD in visual art from Auckland University of Technology. His work is held in significant private and institutional collections locally, including the Auckland Art Gallery, as well as internationally.

Artfull.co.nz is the premier online-first curated platform to discover and buy original works directly from emerging and established artists and makers across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Founded in 2022 by Jessica Agoston Cleary, an experienced curator, writer and public art manager, and John Barnett luminary film producer, business entrepreneur and passionate art collector, Artfull bridges the gap between the artist and the collector through the power of technology.

Artfull's ethos and mission is present the depth and breadth of incredible visual art by artists you know, and introduce you to many you don't. In bringing art on-line, Artfull seeks to demystify art and support collectors to build collections that reflect who they are.

Our services extend art consulting within both residential and commercial contexts, full collection curating and acquisition, facilitation of artist studio visits, and online 'art collecting 101' sessions either one-on-one or in groups.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
