Navona Travertine Tiles by Flaviker

Popular since Roman times, travertine was one of the most widely used kinds of marble in ancient buildings and has continued to influence the work of artists and architects through to the modern and contemporary era. The material can easily be recognised from its distinctive surface holes, which need to be filled with cement or resin subsequent to installation. The three-dimensional graphic effect enables Flaviker to reproduce the rough look of unfilled travertine, creating a unique and striking finished result that combines the aesthetics of the original material with the versatility and practicality of ceramics.

The appearance of travertine slabs is also determined by the direction in which the quarried blocks are cut. The Navona collection stands out not only for its astonishingly realistic look but also for the fact that each colour is available in the two graphic versions, vein and cross. 

Vein cutting is the oldest and most widely used technique for cutting travertine. It highlights the layers of calcareous material deposited over the geological eras and produces slabs with clearly visible and contrasting striations. 

Slabs obtained by cross-cutting travertine blocks ( i.e. cutting in the opposite direction to vein-cut slabs) are characterised by light and dark clouded areas that are reminiscent of other kinds of materials.
