Radiation transfers heat via electromagnetic waves that travel through the air to be absorbed by other objects directly, without transferring any heat to the air. An open fire or an electric coil heater are examples.

It expands in heat and contracts with cold, which acts as a trigger to turn on or off the system, depending on whether the temperature is rising or falling. Contemporary electromechanical systems register the temperature with programmable sensors that allow you to adjust it to your liking.
