GKA firmly believe that where possible architecture should be informed by and reflect local conditions, traditions, and local materials to develop a contemporary informed interpretation of local building culture, providing the end users with an authentic “sense of place” unique and developed specifically to its location.

In the 30 years of practice, GKA have designed culturally inspired resort and residential projects not just in Australia but in Indonesia, Mauritius, India, China, Barbados, Maldives, Fiji, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Morocco. Each project has an emphasis on culturally appropriate design, the use of local natural materials and building techniques, and a refined understanding of each site’s topography and environment.
