Armagh Aparments banner

The nine storey, 30 metre high Armagh Apartment block is the first high rise apartment tower built in Christchurch post the 2011 earthquake. This is a very high quality development with many firsts and notable features incorporated. It is the first base isolated, low damage design apartment high rise constructed in New Zealand. The build is the first concrete shear wall base isolated structure in New Zealand providing a very high level of earthquake resilience and security to the occupants. The tower is directly connected to a carpark building with fully secured independent double or tandem garages. The apartments are all a minimum of three bedrooms with ensuites; along with two balconies and a separate laundry. The lifts open directly into a private lobby space for each apartment with no shared foyers on the floors for extra security and privacy. Sound proofing is of the highest level and the quality materials used – built in oak joinery, store, tile floors and high quality carpet – will set this apart from most other apartment developments in New Zealand. Two double storey penthouses on the roof and two double storey apartments on the ground floor with their own courtyard gardens will further lift the quality of the offering. It will set a new benchmark in Christchurch for inner city high rise apartment living.

About the
Professional

We aim to produce humanist architecture comprised of stimulating and inspirational spaces and places.

We are a design-based practice that believes in providing tailor-made solutions to an individual client's needs. The fundamental objective of the practice is to develop architecture that is appropriate to its specific site, wider context and intended use while being robust, flexible and environmentally-aware.

These variables are used along with the appropriate structural considerations to develop buildings with well-suited form and style, instead of approaching the design from a stylistic standpoint.

The practice was established in 1982 in Christchurch by David Sheppard and Jonty Rout. In its 40 years the practice has carried out a wide range of projects covering many types and in numerous geographic locations. The founding partners brought to the practice extensive design and construction experience gained while working with other offices in both New Zealand and overseas. Tim Dagg joined Sheppard & Rout in 1986 and Jasper van der Lingen in 1993 and they both joined David Sheppard as Directors in 2006.

With David Sheppard now retired and Jonty very sadly passed away the practice is led by Directors Jasper van der Lingen and Tim Dagg and three Associate Directors; Matt Gutsell, Jonathan Kennedy and Steven Orr.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
