A landmark cultural destination for Kirikiriroa Hamilton
Completed in 2026, BNZ Theatre in Kirikiriroa Hamilton brings together performing arts, heritage and locally sourced Hinuera stone in a landmark riverside setting. Designed by Jasmax in collaboration with theatre specialists Charcoalblue, the 1,300-seat venue honours the city’s performing arts legacy while delivering international-standard facilities for theatre, orchestral music and contemporary performance.
Hinuera Natural Stone supplied the locally sourced stonework for the project, contributing to the theatre’s strong connection to the Waikato landscape. The selected stone was Hinuera Natural Stone’s Kaha grade, supplied in both sawn and split finishes to create the building’s distinctive stone-clad façades.
For the project, Hinuera Natural Stone cut and supplied the sawn stone to 1500 x 460 x 40mm, along with split stone cut to 750 x 130 x 40mm. The stone was then installed onto steel frames and secured using steel brackets, forming the dramatic stone-clad elements that frame the theatre and its connection to the river.
