Mangawhai House

This purpose of this project was to create highly accurate and detailed 3D images to bring a modern family home to life. Working closely with Gubb Design, we started with an almost blank canvas to create a collection of exterior and interior 3D images. The property has stunning views of Mangawhai village and estuary where you can see the Hen and Chicken islands, so it was important to include the breath-taking views into  the 3D images. Having worked with Gubb Design in the past I knew there would be an exciting challenge or two in creating the 3d environment. One of the key elements to the project was creating the custom cedar cladding that would be in the exterior and interior. The cedar cladding has random width boards and tones which took a few attempts to get the right look and feel that was desired. Luckily Gubb Design knew exactly what they were looking for and helped with getting everything perfect. Possibly the biggest challenge with 3d images is the landscaping and surrounding environment. The Mangawhai House is located on a naturally flat area to the side of a North facing ridge line with certain types of bush and trees in the immediate area. Using reference images directly taken from the site and google earth, I was able to recreate the landscape and include 3d trees and bushes native to New Zealand. Interior 3d images are extremely difficult to achieve a sense of realism with so many factors that come in to play. The property is North facing with large windows and sliding glass doors that allows lots of natural light to enter the building. Lighting the interior 3d scene with this in mind took quite some time adjusting the settings of the lights to achieve a natural, realistic effect.
