ELEVATED IN THE COUNTRYSIDE Every journey begins with a single step. For these owners, they described taking their first step about 6 years before undertaking the leap of faith to design-build. After living in an old draughty villa for years, it became a dream to build their own home. After a few false starts, including looking at the opportunity of moving out of Auckland, they seized the opportunity to purchase a section in the small town of Matakana. At 135sqm, this split level home is the perfect size for a couple. The lounge provides uninterrupted views, enabled by large bi-fold windows at one end. There is a playful mix of materials, such as the plywood used in the kitchen and the splash of red with the pyroclassic wood burner. This adds warmth and cosiness to a build that the owners have turned into a haven.
