Our clients requested a complete outdoor re-design. They wanted something aesthetically pleasing with a slight Hamptons feel to compliment the interiors. They wanted to include a decent sized pool for their kids. Whilst they didn’t want a turf area they still wanted the space to be lush and packed with greenery. They requested a “private oasis”.

We created a coastal/Hamptons look and feel through a simple colour and materials palette featuring lots of white and natural materials such as timber (allowed to grey), stone and lots of lush broad leaf plant varieties, such as Bangalow Palms and Elephant Ears which pop against the crisp colour palette.

To keep the area soft and to maximise greenery we steered away from a solid paved pool surround and instead created large steppers embedded in Zoysia Sir Grange and incorporated planting poolside.

We love the architectural quality palms bring to a garden and when placed poolside in particular, they also have a strong emotive quality to them. They conjure imagery of deserted islands and tropical holidays. In our opinion it’s hard not to want to relax beneath the shade of a palm tree. They create a vibe. 

Building an outdoor space reminiscent of a little coastal resort at home couldn’t have come at a better time for this young family just as Sydney plunged into covid lockdowns.
