This tradionally styled, comfortable family home perched on a cliff top takes maximum advantage of magnificent views of the sea and Dunedin City while maintaining privacy and sun. Rich detailing borrowed from the 'arts and crafts' movement reflects a subtle nautical theme and is well suited to the sea environment and neighbourhood style."

- NZIA Awards Jury Citation

The Seaside Arts and Crafts House was designed as a family home on a site overlooking Dunedin’s St Clair and Back Beaches.

Careful consideration was given in the design to create a balance between the sun and views and a sense of shelter and enclosure on an exposed cliff top setting.

The house was planned with three Bedrooms each with Ensuites, open plan Kitchen and Living areas and Basement Garage with Storage areas.

The interior layout was planned to take maximum advantage of the dramatic views of the Ocean and the Beaches stretching to the east and north and the panorama across the City to the west.

The Living and Dining spaces open freely onto Decks and Verandahs that provide a choice of sheltered Outside Living and Entertaining areas and connections into the Garden Spaces.

The style of the interior finishing detailing and window design are borrowed from the Arts and Crafts period to create a modern richly textured Seaside Home.

The exterior design and detailing of the house was carefully crafted using materials and forms to knit sympathetically into the existing streetscape.

The choice and mix of exterior materials and colour were chosen to suit the rigours of a seaside environment and to reinforce the strong seaside theme of the house.

Careful consideration was given in the design to create a balance between the sun and views and a sense of shelter and enclosure on an exposed cliff top setting.
