For St Cuthbert’s College, the Centennial Centre is fulfilling its proposed holistic role, encouraging every student to reach her potential, with “a strong mind in a healthy body.”

The Centre incorporates a 25m competition pool, a separate Learners Pool, Fitness Centre and student support services.

Design consistency and a clear articulation of building elements gives legibility to the pool, fitness centre and student support area. The extensive use of glazing allows the upper level to ‘float’ above the transparent base. Laminated timbers also feature – 34m-long glulaminated beams support the roof of the complex, while the western elevation features glulaminated fins.

Cutting edge design and the latest technology was incorporated throughout the centre, including hydraulic and mechanical services. The Lane Pool features a moveable floor that can be raised and lowered to give flexibility to the pool use, allowing lane swimming, advanced learn to swim, Flippaball, Water Polo and Canoe Polo. Both pools use the Natare pool integrated gutter and filtration system, providing great water quality and an attractive and robust stainless steel pool edge.

About the
Professional

We are a mid-sized practie with its origins in the partnership of Burwell Hunt and Mike Davies in 1994. The growth of the practice in the 20 years since then has seen the Wellington office increase to a team of up to 20 architectural staff and the separate Hawkes Bay office opening in 2008. We are a client-focused, innovative, design-oriented practice with strong technical skills capable of providing full architectural and project management services.

Our offices in Wellington and Hawke's Bay have the necessary breadth of skills to deliver excellent outcomes and have successfully completed commercial, community and residential projects of a variety of scales. We are committed to providing a positive influence on the creation of a sustainable future for our community.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
