Forming the first stage of a large waterside development on the western shore of Homebush Bay, the Quarterdeck buildings at Wentworth Point Marina have recently been launched to much enthusiasm from those keen to live a ‘Riviera lifestyle’ in Sydney.

A joint venture between Billbergia and AMP Capital, Wentworth Point is an emerging waterside suburb situated between the Parramatta River on Homebush Bay and the natural bushland of Sydney Olympic Park. Part of the total transformation of the foreshore in this part of Sydney, Wentworth Point Marinas will see the construction of boardwalks, restaurants, shops and parklands, alongside the proposed 200-berth marina at the neighboring NSW maritime site. A proposed footbridge linking Wentworth Point to Rhodes will add proximity to world-class shopping facilities and the greater public transport infrastructure of Sydney.

The Quarterdeck, termed ‘Block A’ during development and construction, is situated on the south-west corner of the masterplan site and is the first completed phase of this 9-stage project. Haron Robson’s design team were involved in complete electrical services design, including reticulation, substations, switch-boards, lighting design, security systems, dry fire, alarms and communication systems.

With architecture by Scott Carver, the Quarterdeck comprises two buildings with a central open space, maximising light and airflow. Going beyond industry standards for energy, water and heating, Billbergia and AMP have taken a proactive approach to environmental sustainability through innovative design and contemporary construction.

Further evidence of the long-term planning which has gone into the development, the entire site has been linked to the National Broadband Network for complete digital connectivity and a communal PayTV system services the entire site utilising just one satellite dish. A Quadrature Amplitude Modulation scheme (QAM) takes the satellite signal and converts it into a cable-ready format. Reticulating throughout the remainder of the development via fibre-optic cables, the beauty of this system is that it is expandable, with no loss of transmission across the entire site.

Haron Robson is currently working on the Precinct Master Development Plan, including integrated communications across the site, an electrical distribution network and the precinct and public amenity lighting strategy. Completion of the entire development is scheduled for November 2014.
