Every designer knows carpet specification for commercial interior projects is a balancing act. A tightrope of performance, budget, lead times and compliance, straining with the weight of the client’s custom design expectations. Thankfully, Wautier Carpets offers a safety net for specifiers, courtesy of the brand’s commercial quality, custom designer weaves and virtual showrooms.

Australian brand, Wautier Carpets has carved out a distinctive position in the commercial space, offering fully bespoke carpets engineered specifically for high-traffic commercial environments (think hospitality, workplaces, and high-end hotel lobbies), all while maintaining a streamlined and accessible specification process via their virtual or in-person showrooms.

Wautier’s approach centres on the idea of “custom carpet with ease.” Rather than limiting designers to pre-set patterns or colourways, the brand works with specifiers to tailor designs to suit each project and brand, supported by in-house designers and a growing digital toolkit, including an expanding virtual showroom for specifiers to explore constructions, textures and applications remotely.

The Sebel - Flinders Lane, Melbourne

Wautier Carpets collaborated on the multi-million-dollar refurbishment of The Sebel Flinders Lane, a boutique hotel located within the bustle of Melbourne's CBD. Led by Studio del Castillo and completed in 2025, Wautier worked closely with the studio to deliver the interior renewal.

The refurbishment encompassed the full upgrade of all 60 guest suites, along with refreshed public areas and circulation spaces, reinforcing the hotel’s reputation for quality and comfort. Wautier’s in-house design team collaborated on the development and manufacture of custom carpet for the lobby, guest rooms and communal areas, responding to the project’s “contemporary urban chic” design direction.

New carpet throughout public corridors and shared spaces speaks to the updated artworks adorning the freshly painted walls. The reception was thoughtfully reconfigured to create a more welcoming arrival experience with a relaxed guest lounge anchored by a floating electric fireplace.

As part of the Accor Vacation Club, the project also aligned with the hotel’s sustainability commitments. High-quality pre-loved furniture was swiftly donated to local charities, and materials were reused within the community to minimise landfill. Alongside Wautier's sustainable bespoke, made-to-order products and the improved lifecycle of true commercial performance in flooring.

Providing a strong design narrative within The Sebel project was Wautier’s IKON collection: a remarkable printed carpet range designed specifically for commercial use. Manufactured using advanced dye-injection technology on durable nylon and wool blends, IKON encompasses striking pattern complexity and colour vibrancy, all while maintaining strong performance credentials.

For specifiers, IKON offers the freedom to create identity and movement across large floor plates, making it particularly suited to hotels, lobbies and public-facing spaces.

Axminster excellence: Seidler and Barbican

For projects requiring a more heritage woven construction, Wautier’s Axminster collections (Seidler and Barbican) provide a refined yet resilient foundation.

  • Seidler is characterised by a clean, single-tone appearance, lending itself to sophisticated commercial interiors where subtlety and uniformity are key.
  • Barbican introduces a barber-pole yarn, creating a gently stippled effect with depth and texture.

These collections draw on traditional Axminster weaving techniques, offering exceptional durability and pattern definition. Perhaps even more remarkable is the Axminster range can be specified to create plushness underfoot and even rugs, without risking the commercial grading.

Colour, longevity and desirable specifier tools

Wautier’s bespoke design model means any palette is achievable, but the brand further supports specifiers through curated tone guidance. A new palette of 36 considered hues, selected with an eye toward 2026 interiors, is being introduced to the Barbican and Seidler collections to help designers navigate essential colour decisions.

To support the specification process, Wautier offers both physical and virtual showroom experiences where designers can engage with real world project samples and new collections in ways that suit their workflow. From early concept through to final documentation, specifiers can access samples, visual references and technical information with ease.

For specifiers seeking confidence in both process and outcome, Wautier’s Ikon, Seidler and Barbican ranges offer a compelling place to start.
