From super yachts to solar systems: inside the world of Diverse Electrical & Automation

It’s not often that you come across an electrician with a unique skill set like that of Diverse Electrical & Automation founder, Jasper Hannay. With a background in the marine industry, Jasper’s experience working across a variety of vessels helped to inform the diverse range of projects he now manages through his business — with everything from super yacht electrics to solar and renewable energy installations a regular occurrence in his calendar. 

“I started Diverse Electrical & Automation in 2019 after stepping out of the marine industry for a short break. The company was formed mainly to maintain valuable relationships that I had built over my years in the marine industry and to continue any work on vessels I had been involved with in the past. By 2020 I was trading full-time as DEA,” Jasper says.

In the early years of DEA, Jasper mainly worked on large-scale marine projects. But, as his reputation and experience grew, he began to take on more land-based projects. 

“Our first project was a lighting upgrade around the Auckland viaduct, encompassing our main skill set and passion: specification, design and automation. These days we are focussed on our on-shore projects around automation, design work, and renewable energy systems.”

Focussing the business on land-based projects means DEA’s main service offerings include residential and commercial automation, electrical design and specification, and designing and installing both grid-tied and off-grid solar power systems.  

Jasper is particularly passionate about the design and installation of solar power systems as it’s a new area of expertise for the business.

 “We design and install custom solar energy systems from start to finish, working only with the most reputable and reliable brands,” Jasper explains.  “This ensures we maintain the same quality of work we have always delivered since our high-end marine project days. No matter the size or requirements of your project, DEA can curate a personalised solar energy system to suit your needs. And, with our automation systems like KNX, we can build you a whole home or business energy management system.”

“No two days are the same at DEA. Due to the nature of our unique skill set, experience, and reputation in the industry, we have been lucky enough to work on some really awesome projects over the last five years. This work has taken us to some amazing and far-off places which keeps the job interesting, too.
