Task Lighting's collaboration with the diner stemmed from Redpaths Electrical in Oamaru and a shared vision to elevate its exterior aesthetics while preserving its nostalgic charm. Once a landmark milk bar, the restaurant underwent a complete refurbishment, embracing a retro-inspired design reminiscent of the 1950s. 

Under the deft guidance of Annabel Berry, project manager and designer, Task Lighting's versatile illumination solutions seamlessly merged with the retro theme, enhancing every architectural nuance. 

The Neon Flex LED lighting system illuminates and captivates, setting the stage for a multifaceted dining experience that can range from intimate family gatherings to vibrant social soirées in the private function room.

"The diner and deli showcase culinary delights, from artisanal cheeses to farm-fresh delicacies," says Johnston.

"The combination of LED exterior lighting, a high-profile Thames Highway location, and a dose of nostalgia invites patrons in to enjoy its quality culinary offerings."

“They wanted to draw the eye to the curving forms of the building's exterior," says Johnston. “The Neon Flex Series, with its high articulation and UV protection, stood as the ideal choice; the new IP68 as it has enhanced durability with its waterproof features.”

The installation process, though straightforward, presented challenges as Task Lighting navigated the intricacies of lighting up the diner's distinctive façade. Yet, with meticulous attention to detail and the product's flexibility, it brought the designer’s vision to fruition, illuminating the restaurant with a radiant glow that sets it apart as a landmark in Oamaru.

“You have a range of colours to choose from, such as static whites, RGB or RGBW colour changing,” says Johnston.

The LED series provides a customised solution to replacing old neon signage and exterior decoration. With IP68 and high UV protection ratings, the 300 series Neon Flex is backed by a standard 3-year warranty and a conditional 5-year warranty.

"An extensive range of end connection types and installation accessories makes installation simple. It is available in various sizes, watts, white CCT, colours and pixel-chasing options," says Johnston.
