Milan’s Salone del Mobile, the world’s largest furniture fair, is a celebration of innovation, creativity and design excellence. It also offers a sneak peek at the biggest trends we can expect to see in furniture and interior design in the year ahead. This year’s show reflected our growing desire for connection, authenticity, and environmental responsibility.
Neolith, a global leader in architectural sintered stone surfaces, was a standout presence at this year’s European design fairs, with a captivating, gallery-like display at Salone del Mobile, in Milan, and a breathtaking outdoor installation that pays a tribute to nature at Casa Decor 2024 in Madrid.
Fluid and organic shapes
Curves continue to captivate the design world, but 2025 will usher in a trend for looser, more organic, and free-flowing forms.
Lighting, kitchen islands, sofas, and rugs at Salone del Mobile featured undulating lines, evoking a sense of relaxation and calm and fostering a connection between indoor environments and the natural world.
Natural stone in earthy shades
When it comes to natural stone, the trend for high-contrast veining has given way to a softer look, dialling up the sense of cosiness in indoor and outdoor spaces. “Stone in beige, earth and natural tones with a textured surface brings a gentle warmth to spaces, while highlighting the beautiful simplicity of the stone,” says Manero.
Tactile stone in nature-drawn hues such as Neolith Everest Sunrise and Neolith Cappadocia Sunset sits effortlessly alongside timber, concrete, richly textured upholstery, brass and copper in bathrooms, kitchens and living spaces, creating an earthy and inviting aesthetic.
Healing & calming spaces
In 2025, design will pivot towards creating environments that nurture and comfort, says Andreas Manero, Marketing Director at Neolith: “Homes will be designed to enhance our wellbeing – sensory sanctuaries that incorporate the colours, textures and tones of nature that offer a safe haven from the noise of the digital world, soothing our senses and fostering an environment of self-care.”
Sustainable luxury
Sustainable materials and eco-conscious manufacturing methods have become central to design, but this year’s events showcased a notable shift towards more luxury. Lavish stone surfaces in rich, natural tones appeared not only in kitchens and bathrooms, but in relaxation and social spaces, such as bedrooms, living and outdoor areas.
Gathering zones
Responding to our growing desire for more meaningful interactions, communal spaces where we can share special moments will be on the rise in 2025.
Classic 1970s-style conversation pits were given a contemporary refresh at Salone del Mobile, with minimalist lines, luxurious materials and a focus on flexibility. But in 2025 this trend will extend into built-in features too, with the rise of multi-functional islands and integrated seating nooks that encourage interaction while you’re preparing meals, movable walls and flexible partitions that allow you to easily switch a space’s function from home office to social living room, and smart lighting that lets you alter the mood of a room from work to entertaining in an instant.
