Jasmin Pakura, Fletcher Steel’s Marketing Content Coordinator, explains what sustainability means for Dimond Roofing.
“Sustainability is a loaded word at the moment, and it’s one we don’t take lightly at Dimond. To us sustainability means more than reducing our carbon emissions - it means looking after our people by fostering a positive work culture and supporting our communities where their activations align with our own. We’ve already implemented green building principles across the industry and are proud to have met the criteria for a “Level A” certification for the Global GreenTag™ GreenRate™ ecolabel and as part of our Toitū carbon reduce® accreditation. However, with Sustainability being a key initiative, we’re striving to do more than just focusing on the environmental pillar, we are also working on our social and human sustainability pillars.”
Dimond’s recent partnership with The Kea Conservation Trust (KCT), and Matt Watson’s recently aired reality television show, Building The Kiwi Dream, are a couple of the larger partnerships formed where sustainability was at the front of mind. However, the roofing company have also been sponsoring local sports teams, animal sanctuaries, education centres and historical restoration projects.
“Our partnership with the KCT was initially brought to our attention by a customer who was actively involved with the KCT. We were ecstatic that Dimond was the supplier that came to our customer's mind as a company who could support such an amazing not-for-profit organisation, it was when we learnt more about the KCT that we decided to go all in.”
“Along with supporting the KCT with the material costs in replacing poisonous lead roofing materials with non-lethal materials, we decided to spread the word about the amazing work The Kea Conservation Trusts are doing through our people,”
Jasmin explains further.“2023, kicked off with all Dimond employees receiving a free shirt in their size which featured artwork dedicated to our partnership with the KCT. They also received a Kea soft toy which had a QR code attached, so employees could learn more about what was happening outside of their day-to-day roles."
"Not only did this help to foster an inclusive environment, but it also gives our employees the chance to see how their hard work helps with the bigger picture, reinforcing that what they do matters and is largely appreciated. This small gesture also resulted in curious customers who noticed employees wearing their Kea shirts proudly at work, highlighting our partnership with the KCT.”
Social media influencers and Kiwi couple from The Current Place, Damien and Chanelle have also partnered up with Dimond Roofing for the restoration of their Woolshed. The couple has established a large social media following through their content which is focused on Sustainable Living in New Zealand.
Damien says, “We put a lot of consideration into who we wanted to work with – Dimond Roofing they share the same values as us when it comes to sustainability”.
Chanelle continues saying, “But what I loved the most was that Dimond Roofing supports The Kea Conservation Trust, when we were down in the South Island, I fell in love with the Kea, which is now an endangered species with only 7,000 left in the wild.”
Continuing Chanelle says “We just want to say a massive thank you to Dimond Roofing crew for making sure we had everything we needed and for your enthusiasm and belief in our adventure”. The Current Place has created a series of videos across, YouTube, Tiktok and Instagram that show the progress of their Woolshed’s re-roofing journey.
Jasmin says “Partnering with the Current Place seemed like a no-brainer, they are advocates for the new wave of homeowners who hold sustainability at the heart of what they do. Starting 2023 off with our partnership with The Current Place has been a highlight for Dimond."
Wrapping up, Jasmin says,"Additionally, Fletcher Steel is celebrating 100 years this year, so as a Fletcher Steel brand, it’s awesome being able to reflect on how far Dimond has grown as a business and a brand since joining the Fletcher Steel family. The growth we see today reinforces that we’re not just another steel company that supplies roofing. We are a company that cares about our people, supports our communities and is doing the best we can for a better tomorrow, all while supplying some pretty epic roofing and cladding material."
