Speed Up by Roche Bobois: 20 Years of Sculptural Design by Sacha Lakic

Celebrating 20 years of innovation, the iconic Speed Up collection by Sacha Lakic continues to define contemporary furniture through movement, precision and material excellence. Now on display at Roche Bobois Australia’s Roseville showroom, the collection showcases sculptural dining tables, armchairs and accent pieces designed for refined architectural interiors.
For 20 years, Speed Up by Roche Bobois has stood as a benchmark in contemporary furniture design. Created by acclaimed designer Sacha Lakic, the collection is a striking fusion of innovation, technology and sculptural form — and it continues to resonate strongly with architects and interior designers seeking statement pieces with enduring appeal.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Speed Up collection has been refined and expanded, reinforcing its position as one of Roche Bobois’ most iconic and recognisable design languages.

Rooted in Sacha Lakic’s background in designing futuristic cars and motorcycles, Speed Up is defined by taut, aerodynamic lines and a sense of controlled movement. Each piece captures the moment where form appears to come alive — a signature approach that has become synonymous with Lakic’s work for Roche Bobois.
Speed Up embodies the boldness and creativity that have always defined Roche Bobois,” says Éric Amourdedieu, Executive Director of Roche Bobois. “Twenty years after its design, it remains a reference that expresses our commitment to creating pieces that stir up emotion.

At the heart of the collection is the Speed Up dining table, reimagined for its anniversary with enhanced precision and balance. The sculptural central base — finished in high-gloss lacquer in white or black — appears to flow seamlessly into the oval marble top, available in multiple marble finishes.
The contrast between the futuristic base and the natural stone surface creates a refined architectural statement, making the table ideal for contemporary residential interiors, luxury apartments and high-end hospitality projects.
Available in four dimensions, the dining table offers flexibility without compromising on its strong visual presence.

Each piece functions as a functional sculpture, designed to integrate seamlessly into design-led interiors while retaining its individuality.
The focus was not on nostalgia, but on showcasing the essence of the design,” explains Sacha Lakic. “Each piece is a functional sculpture where the materials highlight the movement.

Twenty years on, Speed Up remains a powerful expression of Roche Bobois’ commitment to contemporary design, innovation and craftsmanship. Its enduring relevance reflects a design philosophy that prioritises emotion, movement and material excellence — values that continue to guide the brand today.

The Speed Up collection is now on display at the Roche Bobois Roseville showroom, where architects, interior designers and clients are invited to experience the collection’s sculptural quality, material finishes and scale in person.
