PDL by Schneider Electric’s latest range of switches and power points combines smart home features with modernist, perfect square edges and thin, flush covers.

When an interior looks perfectly seamless, it’s often impossible to put your finger on why. It’s not just the spatial choices, fittings and furnishings that give a space that je ne sais quoi, it’s the smaller details that really set a stunning interior apart from a mediocre one. Within the finer details, switches and power points say a lot about the level of design and care given to a space. Introducing from PDL by Schneider Electric, the Clipsal Solis* Collection. Its latest ranges Solis and Solis T Series epitomise the luxury and high-end detail architects and designers love to use to elevate their designs.

To understand more about the new range, we spoke to Schneider Electric’s VP Design Asia Pacific Tim Turrini-Rochford who shared how the refined aesthetic combines perfectly with smart home features.

Clipsal Solis collection design story

The idea for the new switches and power points range, Solis, came from the desire to create an electrical solution that partners perfectly with stunning architecture and interior design projects.

Turrini-Rochford says work on Solis was carefully considered as it had to meet a market need for a beautiful, functional product that could sit easily in high-end projects for specifiers, while satisfying the technical requirements of electricians and aesthetic and functionality needs of homeowners.

“Solis is perfect for spaces that need a luxury and seamless solution, where the switches and power points enhance premium interior spaces,” says Turrini-Rochford.

When assembling the design team to create the range, Schneider Electric sought out internationally renowned designer Jim Hannon-Tan to lead the project. Based in Adelaide, Jim’s extensive portfolio includes work for design names such as Tom Dixon, Marcel Wanders, Magis, Muji, Flos, and Alessi, among others. The brief was for a timeless design that would be adaptable to a wide variety of applications.

“Switches and power points can be in place for up to 30 years,” shares Turrini-Rochford, “so it was important to create a timeless design that would last across decades and design styles.”

The result is a modern interpretation of a classic style that sets a new standard in electrical design. Solis epitomises monochromatic elegance with its sleek matte finishes and flush push-button switch design, its ultra-slim cover showcasing a seamless look. But the range is not only beautiful, it integrates perfectly with smart home automation.

“The refined aesthetic of Solis effortlessly complements PDL's smart home automation technology,” shares Turrini-Rochford. “Compatible with PDL's scalable Wiser smart home system, Solis switches and power points offer both functionality and beauty.”

The Solis Series features a fine matte texture in either black or white – monochromatic simplicity at its finest – and the Clipsal Solis T Series, which elevates the design to a new level in brushed brass, anodised aluminium, and a world-leading white ceramic.

“The ceramic white option is a game-changer,” says Turrini-Rochford. “It also has a satiny soft, quite luxurious texture and it’s also an incredibly tough, super hard-wearing material that helps to resist dirt and fingerprints.”

The T Series blends the old-school feel of robust toggles and brushed metal with modernist, perfect square edges and thin, flush covers. It evokes craftsmanship, precision and tastefully understated design, and transforms the experience for the end-user, making a mundane daily activity into a pleasurable interaction.

“Switches and power points are one of the most common touchpoints in any home, and having such a beautiful design elevates the experience of living in the space.”
