Fordite Rug Collection

Fordite is a collection of 3 rugs designed for cc-tapis and presented during the 2019 Milan Design Week. It derives its name from a surprising by-product of the Detroit automotive industry: layers of enamel car paint, that have built up and hardened over time, are baked and polished, until the result resembles agate. Directly inspired by this rock-hard mineral, a similar approach to sustainability was integrated in the creation of these rugs. The materials (Himalayan wool, pure silk and aloe) used were sourced from the excess left over from cc-tapis's regular production process. The rugs maintain the same layered appearance as fordite, recreated with recycled wool.
