With the goal of finding the best position for your charger based on your power supply and how you park your car.

Installation

After purchase and paperwork are complete, our technicians will book an installation date.

Where they’ll do a physical site survey and fix the charger to the wall. A cable will be run from the unit to the mains power supply, and it will be activated for use.

Your technician will then connect the charger to the Wi-Fi and pair it with the relevant charger’s app.

Demo Walkthrough

Finally, your technician will give you a full demonstration of your charger, what the different indicators mean, and how to manage your EV charger for the best power optimisation.

You will also be shown how to find and use your charger’s app and how to contact Solas for your regular maintenance, health checks, and repairs.

What are the benefits of installing a home EV charger?

The benefits of having an EV charger at home include:

• Cheaper: Home charging has lower costs when compared to public stations. It also provides real-time data of used energy for tax benefits claims. 
• Faster. An effective home car charger can charge the battery in full anywhere between 45 minutes to 7 hours. Much quicker than charging in public stations. 
• Convenience: Having a electric car charger gives control of when to charge. There is no need to rely on public charging stations. 
• Battery Life: To slow EV battery degradation it is recommended to have an almost full battery, rather than a few hour taps on a public charging station. 
• Property Value. An EV charger is a plus in the appraisal value of a house. It makes the house future proof and gives it sustainability credentials. 
• Compatibility. Most home EV chargers are compatible with a wide array of EV car manufacturers.

Should I choose a universal (socket) or tethered charger?

It depends on your preference:

• Convenience - Tethered chargers have a cable already attached which will either be Type 1 or Type 2.
• Flexibility - While you need to plug the cable into a universal charger, you can use both Type 1 and Type 2 cables.
• Cable length - A tethered charger’s cable will be either 4.8m (Type 1) or 7.5m (Type 2) in length, whereas a universal charging cable can be up to 10m for either connector type.
• Cost - Tethered chargers cost more upfront because they include the charging cable, whereas you can buy a universal charger without a cable.

What happens if my install requirements are non standard?

Non-standard charger installations may incur an additional cost.

What's the cost of charging a car at home?

Charging your EV at home is the most cost-effective way to recharge. On a night rate electricity plan, you can expect to pay between $2.50 - $3.00 per 100 km.

Installing an EV home charger allows you to schedule your charging session to off-peak hours, reducing the cost of your charge, and the use of carbon intensive generation.

Does Solas offer a pre install review?

We provide a remote survey via Zoom in advance of your install. 

Our Solas Technicians will then conduct a site survey when they arrive on the day of your install.

How long does it take to fully charge an EV car at home?

This depends on many factors, including the maximum charging capability of the vehicle. 

As a rule of thumb, a 7.4kW single phase EV charger can delivery about 40km of range per hour.

Can I charge 2 cars at home at the same time?

Two or more electric vehicle households are starting to become common, and charging both EVs at the same time is possible by installing multiple smart chargers. 

If we install multiple chargers, then we’ll design them to balance the electricity load between them.

Can I charge my car from my regular household plug?

Most new EVs are supplied with a portable charger that plugs into a standard household plug. 

We recommend that homeowners do not rely on portable charging leads as their primary means of charging, especially if their vehicle has a larger battery pack. 

Standard home outlets are not designed for constant, high amperage loads, and can overheat in some situations.
