Direct Apply Ceilings

Direct-apply installation means that ceiling panels are nailed up or glued to an existing plaster ceiling or drywall. Once applied, such a ceiling doesn’t provide access to its background. Direct-apply ceilings are suitable for residential applications and work well in kitchens, dining rooms and bedrooms. Many decorative tiles are available for use with a direct apply ceiling; however, they don’t provide additional benefits such as soundproofing. 

Types of Ceiling Tiles 

Ceiling coverings are sometimes associated with the strictly utilitarian drop ceiling tile seen in commercial applications. While this type of tile is also an option for home use, other appealing varieties are available at an affordable price range. 

Suspended Ceiling Tiles

Drop ceiling panels are installed into a grid system and suspended from the ceiling joists. Suspended ceiling tiles allow easy access to installations, pipes and wiring mounted above the system. Design options include textured tile, metallic reflective surfaces, and several convenient features, including acoustic enhancement. 

Ceiling Panels or Squares

Ceiling panels can be installed into any new or existing ceiling grid system. Panels and squares are ideal to use in kitchens, basements, and office spaces.

Metal Ceiling Tiles

Metal ceiling tile is available in many patterns, making it an attractive option that can coordinate with existing décor. They are easy to install and maintain, and can be used in a suspended system or applied directly to the plywood.

Glue-On and Staple-On Ceilings

Glue-on or staple-on ceiling is an affordable option distinguished by ease of installation and low maintenance requirements. These tiles attach directly to the existing ceiling and do a great job in covering ceiling lights and other installations, damaged drywall, plaster or popcorn ceilings. Glue-on or staple-on ceilings are available in an array of styles, from basic textures to elaborate designs.

Plank Ceilings

Wood ceiling panels are typically available as tongue-and-groove planks with a variety of wood grain looks. Wood tiles for ceiling can be applied directly or as a part of a grid system. 

Ceiling Tile Materials 

Ceiling materials include mineral fibre, PVC versions, fibreglass, metal, and thermoplastic. For humid environments such as bathrooms, specialised compounds with high moisture resistance are also available. It’s possible to integrate lighting panels into suspended ceiling tiles with a vast selection of available sources.

Things to Consider When Choosing Ceiling Tiles

The application of ceiling tiles determines which product will be best suited for the purpose. They can improve one or more specific aspects of the interior such as sound absorption, light reflection, thermal insulation or humidity resistance. Some tiles can suit all of these options at once. 

Designs can vary, and the options include reveal edges, concealed or semi-concealed edges, lay-in visions, and clip-in ceiling tiles.
