About Ready Lawn products
Ready lawn creates an established grass surface for new gardens, extensions and repairs to worn areas. The page covers ready lawn products for residential landscaping, with turf laid over prepared soil to form a usable lawn without waiting for seed to germinate.
Ready lawn
The quality of establishment depends on site preparation. Remove existing grass and weeds, loosen compacted soil, check the finished level against paths and thresholds, then spread a suitable underlay before laying the turf. Press the rolls firmly against the soil and stagger the joins to prevent gaps.
After installation, watering is the main task. Ready lawn maintenance begins by keeping the turf and soil beneath it consistently damp while the roots establish, then moves to less frequent, deeper watering once growth is stable. Wait until the roots hold the turf in place before mowing, and keep the first cut high to reduce stress.
How should soil be prepared for ready lawn?
Remove vegetation and rubble, loosen the soil to about 100 mm, and correct the level before laying lawn underlay. Lightly compact the surface so it remains firm while still allowing drainage.
How soon should ready lawn be watered?
Water the turf immediately after it is laid, including along the joins and edges. During establishment, check the soil beneath the turf each day and water it as it starts to dry.
When can ready lawn be mowed?
Wait until the turf has rooted and stays in place when gently pulled at a corner. Set the mower high for the first cut, removing no more than one-third of the blade height.
