How much space does an awning take up?

The size of your awning will depend on the size of your patio or garden, but in general, they are 2.5 by 3 metres. For decks, they usually require between 20 and 30 centimetres of space for mounting. This is relative to its type, for example, door awnings are much smaller than patio awnings.

Do I have to fully extend my awning when I use it?

You don’t have to extend it out fully to use it. Most manufacturers provide a minimal extension point that’s necessary to ensure the coverage is stable. Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging the structure. For the most part, you can adjust retractable awnings to suit your specific needs.

Do awnings extend at a particular angle?

Awnings should rest at a 30 to 50 degree angle, depending on the anticipated snow or wind load. This will depend on its placement. Those attached to roofs generally have steeper slopes, equating to around 8 centimetres of drop for every foot of extension. This allows for enough overhead room while reinforcing stability.
