In 2008, Camberwell High began a project to construct a new school canteen and to upgrade the old canteen area and surrounding zone. We decided to use Quartz Carpet within the major linking zone, which was an inside area but one which received very large numbers of students passing through on a daily basis. The Quartz Carpet always looks good, it’s an excellent wearing material as it is very durable and suits a school environment admirably.

I chose Alternative Surfaces Quartz Carpet for both the interior and exterior finishes of the Longueville Hotel for its outstanding longevity, texture and range of colours. It gave me seamless finish with a tough and durable edge. It allowed me to feel comfortable knowing that whilst it looked great, the extreme pressure the hotel places on its floor and bar finishes wouldn’t be a problem.

We love the Quartz Carpet product and chose to specify it because it gave the showroom floor a beautifully textured finish and looked stunning under spotlights; a perfect canvas to showcase stylecraft’s furniture.

We used X-Bond Polished Bond Grey Marble and Black Pearl for the walls in both the reception and the breakout space. It was also used on the benches in the breakout and on the reception desk. The Baulderstone design concept was summed up as “Stable, Strong, Balanced, Bold, Adaptable and Agile”. X-Bond Polished Bond provided a material that was solid, grounded and contrasting against the malleable aluminium and natural timbers. Resembling the appearance of concrete, it completed the pallet of finishes that provided reference to building sites.

We chose Alternative Surfaces’ Quartz Carpet system for this project due to it’s suitability for re-surfacing existing floors (applied directly over concrete tiles). Quartz Carpet also provided the required slip-resistance and it fulfilled the maintenance criteria required by Jam Factory. In terms of cost for the supply and installation, the Quartz Carpet was within an acceptable range. The consistent finish we desired was achievable with Quartz Carpet. We wanted to achieve a concrete colour and for it to be seamless rather than appear modular like tiles.

Our decision to use Alternative Surfaces’ Quartz Carpet was based on using a material that provided a seamless floor surface across the existing concrete slab at Matilda Bay Brewers Canteen.

The surface meant that we were able to clearly delineate the extent of the Brewers Canteen by distinguishing the floor from the adjacent surfaces of the Brewery. However it was important that the material was suitable to the industrial setting that the Canteen was set. The effect and broad pattern that we applied to the floor has had a positive effect and created the perfect floor plane from which you can experience the brewery. The ability to keep the surface clean and seal the material was important in this food and beverage environment. Overall I am delighted by the material as it offers a natural and finely grained surface that worked well in the environment we wanted to create.

We love the material and we see potential in many other applications for our projects!

There were no other alternatives to the Alternative Surfaces’ X-Bond System!! A noticeable main feature and hero of the dynamic modern extension of this weatherboard period house is the “Concrete Screed” looking floor.

I challenged the clients’ wish for a concrete floor and convinced them to use Alternative Surfaces: X-Bond which displayed a softer, less speckled appearance than polished concrete. I was immediately impressed by the qualities of the X-Bond Polished Bond system and its ability to allow in-slab hydronic heating. Together with its visual aesthetic appeal to compliment the clean line stylish Interior finishes, it ticked all the boxes as a perfect flooring solution.

The X-Bond Polished Bond floor created a unique polished concrete look, which is hardwearing, but with a feeling that is warmer and quieter underfoot than polished concrete.

We saw X-Bond as a perfect solution to creating the look and feel of concrete without the challenges of pouring and forming concrete in a small bathroom renovation. If we had used real concrete our room would have been reduced by at least another 60+ mm in all directions. Which doesn’t sound like much but would have made a world of difference in this bathroom to the bathtub fitting and the finished luxury size of the shower.

The client, I and the IDI design team are in love with the seamless finish and colour choice. We also wrapped with the way the colour changes from wet to dry which authenticates the living vision of the material.

Working with Alternative Surfaces was terrific! The quoting process and samples request was a breeze. The overall job encountered several glitches due to plumbing issues and although our builder had to make several changes to his building programme you managed to reschedule & get the job done at one of the busiest times of the year!
